Of the initiatives submitted, eight will be implemented during the second half of 2026 and the other seven in the first half of 2027.
The 2026 COIL project call from the Office of International Relations at Diego Portales University received a total of 15 applications, the highest number received since the creation of the Fund for the Internationalization of Learning Processes (FIPA) in 2023. This demonstrates the interest of faculty members in incorporating the COIL methodology into their courses.
Of the submitted projects, eight will be implemented during the second half of 2026 and the other seven in the first half of 2027.
The applications came from the Faculties of Architecture, Art and Design, with the Design, Architecture, and Graphic Design programs; the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, with History; the Faculty of Communication and Letters, with Journalism; the Faculty of Administration and Economics, with Business Engineering; the Faculty of Medicine; and the Faculty of Psychology. The Faculty of Health and Dentistry, with Kinesiology; and the General Directorate of General Studies, Archives, and Culture, with a General Education Course (CFG).
Regarding participation in the call for proposals, Carlos Ahumada, Coordinator of Cooperation and Global Training at the General Directorate of International Relations, noted that these initiatives have increased since the creation of the FIPA fund in 2023.
He also emphasized that “this increase has been driven by a strategy to strengthen faculty capacities. Every semester, the General Directorate of International Relations offers training in the COIL methodology within the framework of the Faculty Development Workshops of the Academic Vice-Rector’s Office (VRA), held in January and July.”
Regarding the expectations for the initiative, Ahumada stated that these projects help to further strengthen the internationalization of the curriculum, in addition to offering more meaningful learning experiences for faculty and students.
The coordinator concluded that “one of the main objectives is to consolidate high-quality COIL experiences that promote the development of intercultural skills, international collaboration, and learning in diverse contexts.”
The proposals consider the following higher education institutions as counterparts: Javeriana University (Colombia), University of Buenos Aires (Argentina),
University College Cork (Ireland), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), University of San Francisco (United States), Jaume I University (Spain), Columbia University (United States), San Francisco de Quito University (Ecuador), and the University of Rosario (Colombia), with which two joint projects will be developed.
It is worth noting that COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) projects are an initiative promoted by the General Directorate of International Relations (DGRRII), which facilitates virtual exchanges with foreign universities to implement different approaches and methodologies in the classroom.
