Camila Paredes del Canto

Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital, Madrid

Camila Paredes, a Nursing student at UDP, went on an exchange at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital in Madrid, Spain.

“I did my internship in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. I stood 2 and a half months, where I learned about intubated patients, vasoactive drug use, ECMO management, hemofiltration, as well as I learned about different acute and chronic pathologies that affect the heart, its diagnosis, and treatment,” the student tells that she was on an exchange at the Alfonso X El Sabio University.

To the above, Paredes del Canto adds that “I shared with amazing people who welcomed me with open arms, they taught me their work methodology and explained to me everything I didn’t know. The last few weeks, I was another nurse they trusted, and they were happy every time they saw me arrive. We shared a lot about the cultural differences between Chile and Spain, and we realised we have so many things in common.”

Our student says, “I appreciate the opportunity of being able to live this incredible experience, which has also helped me to develop in other areas, like sharing with people from different nationalities, travelling, practising, and improving my English level, knowing new cultures and overall learning and having fun. I am also grateful for both the theoretical and practical bases I had when I arrived in Spain, since I felt at an advantage regarding knowledge compared to Spanish classmates who were doing their internships in the service.”
