UDP researchers lead 2025 FOVI Projects

Four researchers from Diego Portales University (UDP) have been selected in the 2025 Support Fund for the Formation of International Networks for Research Centers (FOVI), a competition held by the National Research and Development Agency (ANID).

The primary objective of the FOVI grant is to support the generation and strengthening of international networks that provide an interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary perspective, boosting international ties across Chile’s various regions and macro-zones. Awarded projects receive funding of up to 30 million pesos for execution over a 12-month period.

Selected Projects and Academics

The UDP researchers who were awarded grants, along with their respective projects, are:

  • Manuel Aravena & Kseniia Telikova (Institute of Astrophysical Studies – UDP)
    • Project: “Revealing galaxy assembly in the early universe with JWST.”
    • Lead Institution: Diego Portales University.
    • Collaborating Institutions: The team also includes researchers from the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie; Università degli Studi di Padova; University of Geneva; University of Toronto; California Institute of Technology; Universidad de Valparaíso; Universidad de Concepción; and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
  • Claudio Fuentes (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities)
    • Project: “Cross-border cooperation in the field of security: Network of comparative area studies and initiatives to address organized crime in northern Chile.”
    • Lead Institution: Universidad de Tarapacá.
    • Associate Institution: Diego Portales University.
  • Raúl Pezoa (Faculty of Engineering and Sciences)
    • Project: “Ports 5.0: The resilience challenge in the next generation of smart ports.”
    • Lead Institution: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
    • Associate Institution: Diego Portales University.

The results of the 2025 FOVI competition were published last Thursday, December 4. This success reflects the quality and relevance of the research conducted at Diego Portales University, strengthening its ties with centers of excellence worldwide.
