Anoek van den Berg, Director of the General Directorate of International Relations, highlighted the advantages of completing a student exchange at Diego Portales University.

On Monday, March 2, at the Nicanor Parra Library auditorium, the General Directorate of International Relations (DGRRII) welcomed the international students who will be spending the first semester of 2026 at the University.

The group consists of approximately 100 students, some arriving from Europe—specifically France and Spain—as well as from across Latin America.

The activity began with remarks from Anoek van den Berg, Director of the DGRRII, who welcomed the group and emphasized the benefits of studying abroad: “May you broaden your views, perspectives, and ways of learning; also, may you build more connections and friendships, and deeply enrich yourselves during your journey through our University.” She also noted that the students represent diverse disciplines, including Art, Design, Architecture, Business, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Medicine.

“We firmly believe that the world’s great challenges require an interdisciplinary perspective, as well as collaboration and maturity. At our University, internationalization goes hand in hand with a strong commitment to quality and academic excellence,” she stated.

During the welcome session, information was shared regarding programs available to students, such as Globaliza and American Corner, among others. Additionally, Victoria Sarián, Coordinator of Incoming International Student Mobility, shared details on academic processes and important dates.

Pedro Pablo Huenupi, representing Globaliza, explained how the programs operate, including the participation of student volunteers (Buddies) who mentor the incoming international students.

The day continued with a presentation by Spanish professor Rodrigo Santibáñez, who gave a lecture on Chilean history and geography to provide context on the country’s political and social climate.

Antonia Laubscher, a Communication and Media student from the University of Zurich, noted that this exchange will allow her to experience the local culture: “I hope this experience is something truly beautiful for me, that it broadens my horizons, and that I can connect with design and advertising.”

Finally, the International Relations team provided safety recommendations for traveling around the country, ensuring the students can make the most of their exchange experience.

The activity concluded with a welcome cocktail and a tour of the University District (Barrio Universitario), where the University is located. Furthermore, students were introduced to the diverse campus.
