The Faculty of Social Sciences and History signed an important collaboration agreement with American University (AU) to facilitate the continuation of postgraduate studies for UDP students.
Specifically, this alliance allows final-year students and/or graduates from the last five years of the Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology programs at UDP to apply, under preferential conditions, to the Master in Sociology: Research and Practice at American University. This allows them to complete the master’s degree in one year instead of two, thanks to partial credit transfer for courses taken during their undergraduate studies at UDP.
“The signing of this agreement is highly significant,” commented Rossana Castiglioni, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and History. “Pursuing a master’s degree at a university as prestigious as American University promotes a highly internationalized education,” she emphasized.
The Master in Sociology fosters the development of diverse research methods through the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. According to the Dean of the Faculty, although this program “is housed in the Department of Sociology at American University, its curriculum prepares students for careers in applied research, doctoral studies, social activism, and public policy design, among other options.”
Regarding the benefits of this Master’s program, she stated: “As it is a 4+1 program, those accepted will be able to obtain their degree in just one year. Furthermore, they will not have to pay application fees and will be eligible for a USD 12,000 scholarship to cover part of their tuition, in addition to airfare paid for by UDP.”
Anoek van den Berg, Director of International Relations, added that “this opportunity is extremely relevant within the framework of the more than 30-year collaboration between American University and UDP, and it reinforces the trust between both institutions by providing a new and highly valuable internationalization opportunity for UDP students.”
To apply, students must first be nominated by the Faculty of Social Sciences and History so that their application can then be evaluated by American University. To be nominated, applicants must be final-year students or graduates (within the last 5 years) of Anthropology, Political Science, or Sociology at UDP; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0; have passed three courses defined by the Faculty and the Master’s program; demonstrate proficiency in English; submit an academic letter of recommendation; a statement of objectives; and an updated Curriculum Vitae.
