8 March 2024

In order to provide guidance on life in Chile and at the UDP, the team from the General Directorate of International Relations (DGRRII) met with the international students who, in 2024, will carry out a student exchange at the University.

In this way, the professionals provided information and recommendations about the academic processes of the campus and invited them to participate in two relevant instances for their insertion in our House of Studies: American Corner and the Globaliza UDP program, spaces that seek to be a point of meeting between national and international students and that, through their different activities, aim at the internationalization of the student body.

“We want to give you a very cordial welcome,” commented Anoek van den Berg, general director of International Relations, during the activity. “We are very happy to tell you that in total we are going to have about 100 international students present at the UDP, a number we had before the pandemic,” she stated.

During the meeting, the DGRRII team also provided background information on life in Chile and called on the students to make the most of this experience. Likewise, on the occasion, the international students participated in a tour of the neighborhood where the UDP is located and shared with other Chilean students at a cocktail on the terrace of the Nicanor Parra Library.

CASA consortium students

As part of the welcome activities, the DGRRII also received a group of students from the universities belonging to the Consortium Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA). Pilar Mella, director of the entity in Chile, expressed that this is a very good opportunity for the students of these academic institutions, since by accessing UDP courses they can complement their studies, especially in the field of humanities.

“We are very happy to bring students to Diego Portales University. Regardless of whether they can take classes at two or three universities, we are interested in the UDP because of its strong humanist branch. Here students come to take classes that are not taught at their home universities. Furthermore, the UDP is located in a place that allows diversifying and enriching the training of students,” she said.

For her part, Mairene Rojas-Tineo, a student at Brown University, was interested in taking a course at UDP and commented: “UDP is very different from universities in the United States. I study Engineering and I didn’t know that I could take other classes here. “I want to take a course in Chilean poetry, something totally different from what I have studied.”

During their exchange at UDP, international students will be able to access the different programs of the campus faculties and will participate in field trips and other cultural exchange activities. In this way, international students will live a unique experience that will mark their educational process.
