{"id":13053,"date":"2026-06-22T15:27:56","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T19:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/internacional.udp.cl\/?p=13053"},"modified":"2026-07-01T09:33:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T13:33:58","slug":"academicos-udp-participan-en-encuentro-de-la-red-internacional-global-humanities-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internacional.udp.cl\/en\/academicos-udp-participan-en-encuentro-de-la-red-internacional-global-humanities-network\/","title":{"rendered":"UDP Academics Participate in Global Humanities Network International Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Manuel Vicu\u00f1a, and the coordinator of the Centre for the Humanities and lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy, Luis Felipe Alarc\u00f3n, participated in the latest edition of the annual meeting of the Global Humanities Network, which took place between 10 and 12 June at Sabanc\u0131 University in Istanbul, Turkey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This event marked a significant milestone for the organisation, as it was held outside the University of Cambridge for the very first time, bringing together academics from various institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forum was characterised by reflections on issues of global scope, such as the relationship between the humanities and public debate in a context of digital transformations; the role of translation in the discipline; and justice in the distribution of knowledge and its relevance to the formation of democratic citizenship. Within this framework, the Dean delivered the presentation &#8220;On the Humanities: Some Reflections&#8221;, while lecturer Alarc\u00f3n addressed the topic &#8220;In Presence of All Languages of the World: \u00c9douard Glissant and the Poetics of Translation&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The Global Humanities Network, in which UDP has participated through the Centre for the Humanities since its foundation in 2020, represents a powerful element of internationalisation, particularly regarding the University&#8217;s academics as well as PhD students,&#8221; stated Dean Manuel Vicu\u00f1a.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this regard, the university authority maintained that &#8220;these meetings make it possible to strengthen ties, reflect collectively, and set in motion new collaborative initiatives that contribute to a more robust institutionalisation of the network.&#8221; &#8220;We project the strengthening of its multilateral relations, fostering a fluid relationship among all the universities involved,&#8221; he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Global Humanities Network was created to promote academic debate and cooperation in the social sciences and humanities. Its objective is to rethink research methods and analyse the role of the discipline within the university environment and the public sphere.
