The programme has already initiated its first co-tutelle under this framework.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The delegation participated in academic activities at Leiden and included the Dean of the UDP Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Manuel Vicu\u00f1a; the Director of the School of Anthropology, Miguel P\u00e9rez; and the Director of the Inequalities Observatory, Gabriel Otero.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the stay, the UDP academics met with authorities and scholars from the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, and the interdisciplinary centre ReCNTR. The delegation also participated in the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Latin American Studies (LAS) Programme at Leiden University.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Co-tutelles for students from both universities<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agreement, which will be formalised this year, will allow selected students from the UDP PhD in Social Sciences to simultaneously enrol in the doctoral programme at Leiden University, and vice-versa. This modality includes co-supervision\u2014a tutor at each institution\u2014credit transfer\u2014research residencies at both universities\u2014and the awarding of a degree from both institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The visit reflects the programme\u2019s commitment to the internationalisation of doctoral training and to connecting its students with global academic networks, in line with the educational hallmark of the UDP PhD in Social Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Founded in 1575, Leiden University is the oldest academic institution in the Netherlands and is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The delegation of academics, led by the Director of the UDP PhD in Social Sciences, Aldo Madariaga, travelled to Leiden University (Netherlands) to finalise cooperation terms that will allow students to obtain doctoral degrees from both institutions.
