On Wednesday, July 30, in the Nicanor Parra Library auditorium, the General Directorate of International Relations (DGRII) welcomed international students who will be participating in a second-semester exchange program at Diego Portales University.<\/span><\/span> The event began with remarks from Anoek van den Berg, Director of the DGRII, who provided information about the University and the country.<\/span><\/span> “We want to tell you how proud we are to be one of the leading universities in Latin America\u2014well, globally, at least\u2014for being a fairly young university, but with very good scientific production and training that is also closely linked to our environment,” she noted.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the event, the DGRII provided practical information about life in Chile, useful information that can help students adapt to the country, and safety tips, among other things.<\/span><\/span> Victoria Sari\u00e1n, Coordinator of Incoming International Student Mobility, highlighted key academic aspects and provided information on university life at the UDP.<\/span><\/span> For his part, Max Herrera, an undergraduate student at the University of Diego Portales, presented the various initiatives promoted by the DGRII, including the Globaliza and Buddies programs, which promote cultural exchange between Chilean and international students. He emphasized that “at Globaliza, what we do throughout the semester is organize outings and activities, both within the Universidad de Diego Portales and outside, including field trips. We will also visit numerous historical sites nationwide. And, of course, we also have the support of volunteers who are distributed across all the faculties and are also undergraduate students.”<\/span><\/span> The Buddies program is supported by volunteers who accompany students in their daily activities at the different UDP faculties.<\/span><\/span> Meanwhile, Indira Vivas, UDP American Corner coordinator, presented the American Corner project, which “offers a space not only for English, but also for more academic activities with international students, cultural integration activities between various international and local students, and what we do most are our conversation groups,” she noted.<\/span><\/span> Finally, Spanish professor Rodrigo Santib\u00e1\u00f1ez taught a Chilean history class to introduce the students to the country where they will be participating in their exchange program.<\/span><\/span> The welcome ended with a cocktail party for the students, which also marked the start of the second academic semester for the entire student community.<\/span><\/span> With this type of initiative, the DGRII reaffirms its commitment to the internationalization of the UDP.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
